I was really getting into using colored pencils, I was in this place in my head where I imagined the kind of spiritual fire of creative and destructive force.

When I got into doing this, I knew she had to be at peace with the fire around her. She was the fire, it was hers, and I wanted to explore the different colors I could mix into her face to bring out a flesh tone without really using flesh colors. The result is a very deep and powerful expression that yet is calm and a little mysterious, set into a face that reflects all the colors of the flame.
